The Nogier System of Ear Acupuncture
At Bliss Clinic, Drs. Fraser and Nicholas Bliss are trained in the Nogier system of Ear Acupuncture which was developed by a French neurologist, Dr. Paul Nogier, and his medical team in Lyon, France. He started by taking the ancient map of Chinese ear acupuncture points showing correspondencies to all parts of the body and subjected them to the scrutiny of Western neurology and brain scanning techniques. He not only found that the Chinese ear points were highly accurate, but he also discovered entirely new ear points and mappings of the human body and its organs.
Through his research, he made three new medical discoveries which have revolutionized and Westernized the traditional Chinese model of acupuncture:
- Through studying the brain and its neurological pathways he discovered new ways to treat chronic pain and chronic disease via specific points in the ear. He found that, whereas the traditional Chinese ear points worked well for acute conditions, they did not necessarily give lasting results for chronic pain and disease. Based on his painstaking research over three decades, new mappings of the ear were created which then offered more effective ways of successfully treating chronic pain and internal organ problems.
- He discovered that different parts of the ear respond to different frequencies, whether they be electro-magnetic or frequencies of specific colours of light. Specific frequencies when applied to different parts of the ear can be used to both diagnose and treat a wide variety of medical conditions, not only physical disturbances but also psycho-emotional. The Nogier system of Auriculo Acupuncture (or “Auriculo Medicine” as it is referred to at its more advanced levels) is truly a cutting-edge form of holistic medicine.
- He discovered that active and treatable ear acupuncture points can be detected by sensing a subtle reflex pulse felt when palpating the radial artery pulse at the wrist. This newly discovered pulse phenomena is termed the V.A.S. or the Vascular Autonomic Signal. It is used to maximize accuracy in selecting points for treatment along with instruments which detect and generate specific electrical and light frequencies.

Effective treatments for pain, internal organ disorders, anxiety and psycho-emotional problems etc…
The Nogier system is recommended on a case by case basis. Over the years at Bliss Clinic, excellent clinical results have been achieved with some of the following conditions:
- PAIN: in all parts of the body –even severe chronic pain. eg, Pain from arthritic joints, stomach and digestive disorders, back pain and disc disorders, migraines and nerve pain to name a few.
- INTERNAL ORGAN (FUNCTIONAL) DISORDERS: eg, gastric reflux, esophageal spasms, bladder problems, menstrual and fertility disorders, voice disorders etc.
- PSYCHO- AND EMOTIONAL DISORDERS: eg., anxiety, insomnia, certain types of depression, PTSD and phobias.

Dr. Bliss treats using a frequency detecting instrument
In all cases, when detecting and treating acu-points in the ear, the effect is first via specific centers in the brain and on disturbed neurological pathways which then cause a normalizing, physiological change in the painful, diseased or malfunctioning part of the body.
Often the results of treatment with Nogier ear acupuncture come very quickly, sometimes immediately.

Classical Chinese Acupuncture or body acupuncture
In addition to Ear Acupuncture or Auriculotherapy, Dr. Fraser Bliss also has many years of experience with Classical Chinese acupuncture or body acupuncture based on the meridian system and Classical 5-Element Theory. He often uses Classical Body Acupuncture in combination with Chiropractic treatments on the same visit.
Please note: At Bliss Clinic, we often recommend using acupuncture treatments in combination with chiropractic treatments in order to get optimal results. Combining the two methods often eliminates symptoms and corrects underlining imbalances more quickly than if either acupuncture or chiropractic treatments are used as stand-alone treatments.
Often, however, Auriculotherapy (Ear Acupuncture) can be used as a stand-alone treatment and can give excellent results. We discuss these options with each client in order to come up with the best and most cost-effective treatment strategies.
